Bassett suffer heavy defeat against Badgers

At a fog-bound Nationwide sports ground, Bassett lost heavily to league leaders Swindon Badgers on a frosty pitch.

Badgers opened the scoring in five minutes after picking the ball up direct from a Bassett goal-kick, however, following a fine passing move down the left flank, the girls grabbed an equaliser with a well taken goal from Kayleigh Lewis. For the remainder of the first half, Badgers continued to push Bassett back into their own half and scored three more goals to make the half-time score Badgers 4, Bassett 1.

Badgers pressed strongly at the start of the second half as they tried to improve their goal difference at the top of the table. Badgers scored in the first minute of the second half and continued to push forward at every opportunity. Bassett struggled to clear their lines, particularly from goal kicks and most of the second half was played in and around the Bassett goal. Badgers played some good passing football as the goals started to fly in. However, in the last minute of the match Jena Mcfadzean was able to escape from her marker and speed in on goal to score Bassett′s second goal of the match. This was no more than the girls deserved considering the effort they had put in against the top team in the league.

Next match is in the cup on Sunday 11th December against ′Swindon Badgers′ again.

Girl of the match was Joni Warner
