Good performance in first competitive outing

The Under 14 Girls started the league season off with a home match against Swindon Spitfires. Bassett played into a strong wind in the first half and were forced back into defence for much of the time, with Rebecca Munton and Gwennie Hopkins making some important interceptions and Georgina Viveash in goal, making several excellent saves. Bassett did make some chances, and a defence splitting pass from Amy Aitken and some strong runs from Gemma French kept the Spitfires defence on their toes.

Spitfires opened the scoring after five minutes but for the next twenty minutes Bassett defended stoutly with the second goal for Spitfires coming just before half time.

In the second half Bassett had the wind at their backs and Rebecca Munton went in goal which released Georgina Viveash to forage upfield. Spitfires started the second half strongly and although Bassett battled hard they scored their third and fourth goals in the 40th and 45th minutes.

Although disappointed at losing the match the team performed well in its first competitive outing against more experienced opposition.

Girl of the match was Rebeccca Munton
