Under 14 Girls lose 6-0 in atrocious conditions

The Under 14 Girls lost six nil to Keynsham Town in atrocious conditions at Ballards Ash. Having lost ten nil in the away fixture the girls knew that they were in for a tough match, but the final result could have been much closer if it had not been for a late goal flurry in the last ten minutes when Keynsham scored four times.

In the first half, Bassett, with a strong wind at their backs, contained the Keynsham attack well, and they even managed to survive a penalty kick which was screwed wide by the Keynsham penalty kicker. When Keynsham did manage to get a shot in on goal they found George Viveash in the Bassett goal in outstanding form. During the first half the players had to endure a persistent hailstorm which stung their faces and legs but despite the inclement weather the Bassett defence held firm until the 28th minute when Keynsham scored from close range.

In the second half Bassett had the wind and hail in their faces and every single member of the team battled hard to contain the Keynsham attack, and there were several opportunities when Bassett broke away and attacked the Keynsham goal. The second goal came in the 40th minute but Bassett kept trying to score right till the end of the match. Bassett lost four goals in the last ten minutes which was a bit harsh on the girls who had battled throughout.

The players and spectators with their pebble-dashed faces were glad when the match was finally over and they could defrost their frozen fingers – roll on the summer tournaments!

Girl of the match was Kelly Little
