Wootton Bassett Town U13 Yellow vs Blunsdon Colts U 13

07 Apr 2013 - Blunsdon Colts A (H)

Bassett arrived at a cold but bright Ballards Ash eager to continue their impressive form and, after a few moments' early pressure from Blunsdon , were soon into their stride as Joe turned delightfully in the box to put a ball out to Callum who couldn't quite pull it back to cause any damage. Tom then cut a ball back to Joe who skied it narrowly over the bar before Euan launched his own shot that bounced off the cross bar. A goal was surely going to arrive soon and it came after a Callum free kick into the area looped up off the head of Luke to land at the feet of Euan who slammed it home from close in to open the scoring - 1: 0

Jamie then shot narrowly wide but , soon after, he turned provider after he battled through in the middle and slid the ball out to Callum on the left who was able to power in on goal and slide the ball past a despairing 'keeper - 2 : 0

Joe nearly added a third moments later when Tom put him in, but the post denied him before Blunsdon fashioned a rare attack when a player was put clean through with only Connor to beat. Ever alert, though, Connor rushed out and smothered the ball denying a goal and any chance of encouragement for our visitors.

Bassett's attacking pressure now stepped up a further gear and some lovely passing moves developed involving all players and, tellingly, it was defender Ben who angled a beautiful ball through to Joe who had the goal at his mercy, calming slotting home a third goal past an oncoming goalkeeper - 3 : 0

Moments later a superb cross field ball from Callum put Tom in on goal and he only narrowly missed. This move was followed by further shots from Dec and Jamie which brought out the best from a busy keeper before our fourth was scored from close range by Lewis after a corner caused confusion in box - 4: 0

Some great interchanges between Callum, Lewis and Jamie (typical of all players' approach this morning) then followed with the ball ending at Lewis' feet at the edge of the area from where he was able to slide the ball home, a slight deflection helping to confuse the Blunsdon 'keeper - 5 : 0

Half-time: 5 - 0

Early shots from both Ben and Dec hinted at what was to come in the second half and it didn't take long for our 6th goal to arrive. A lovely downward header from Dec to Lewis put him in a position to fire home again from the edge of the area to grab his hat-trick and take the game beyond Blunsdon's reach - 6: 0

George began to make headway down the left wing and a great pass from him into Dec led to a strong shot that the 'keeper grabbed while Jamie and Tom on the other wing continued to cause havoc and, after he had provided so many unselfish passes, it was only fitting that Tom should grab our 7th after a goal mouth scramble allowed him to prod home from a few feet out - 7 : 0

Bassett's dominance was shown by the fact that Blunsdon's first corner came in the last quarter of the match but any brief pressure was soon snuffed out as Luke powered out from the back to put 4 onto 2, although on this occasion the overworked Blunsdon defenders were equal to it. Moments later, however, they were undone yet again as Tom took the ball down the right and cut it back for Dec to score from close range - 8 : 0

An indirect Blunsdon free-kick then came to nothing from inside our area before a free-kick from Callum at the other end ended more productively as a clearance fell to Lewis at the edge of the area who was able to score his fourth and Bassett's ninth of the morning - 9 : 0 To their credit, Blunsdon still fought on and fashioned a chance of their own just after this when a weak clearance fell to an attacker who just couldn't find a way through, but a tenth goal from Bassett always looked likely and it fell to Josh (who had also performed very well today) to round off a consummate team performance with a goal on the left from a Lewis cross which had found him unmarked inside the area - 10 : 0

There was even time for a Bassett penalty to be awarded after a despairing defender felled the mercurial Jamie at edge of the area, although Euan's spectacular penalty kick narrowly missed to prevent an eleventh and the game ended at just the ten goals -yet another eye-catching score line in Bassett's favour.

Full-time: 10 - 0

Man of the match: Some excellent performances again today from all players, but the award goes to Lewis Cholod for his all-action approach to the match resulting in 4 great goals to take his total to an impressive 22 for the season.

Coach's analysis: An emphatic performance where all 13 boys contributed as they got the ball down & passed the ball to create 10 excellent goals & lots of other good chances. They always looked to pass to a player in a better position which is the sign of a good player. The players also made sure that a clean sheet was also going to happen as they worked so hard to track back.Well done lads.

Team: Conor Chivers, Edward Fish , Luke Weekes, Ben Croydon, Josh Curtis, Callum Bridges, George Staten, Euan Burke, Jamie Byron, Tom Miller, Lewis Cholod, Declan Cox, Joe Fenton.
