11 Nov 2012 - Kings Stanley (A)

SUNDAY 1TH NOVEMBER- KINGS STANLEY (AWAY) With so few league fixtures in November we arranged a friendly away at Kings Stanley, who currently occupy 2nd place in Division 1 of the North Wilts League with 3 wins out of 4 games & their defeat came against Stanley Park Youth who as we know are a very tough side.

We had 14 players available with Max Fraser & Joe Fenton making their Bassett debuts in place of the missing Ed Fish & Declan Cox.

The boys started the game very brightly & matched our opponents in what was an excellent advert for football at this age group as both sides got the ball on the floor & passed very crisply.

All over the park we were very busy & we went in front after 18 minutes when a lovely pass from Charlie was converted at the back post by Tom from close range.

The rest of the first half was very end to end but Bassett's back line in the first half of Josh, Ben, Max, Lewis W, George & Luke kept the lively Kings Stanley forwards away from Conor's goal with excellent defending.

As half time approached we saw the goal of the game as a poor kick out from the Kings Stanley goalie was intercepted by Callum & in a flash he curled the ball into the top corner from 30 yards. Half Time 2-0

With the slope in our favour in the 2nd half we started where we finished in the first half as the dominant Jamie & Euan bossed the centre of midfield with George & Josh also linking well in their wide roles.

Our front three of Joe, Charlie & Lewis C worked hard all game & were always looking for space to move into to receive a pass both in the middle and out wide.

Our 3rd goal came when a long range free-kick from Euan was too hot for the goalie & crept over the line. The confidence now in all the boys was at top levels & we really did play some fantastic football with so many chances being created but unfortunately shots were fired straight into the goalies mid-drift rather than low or high.

We did get our rewards for our hard work in the 2nd half when we scored further goals from a Euan header, a cool composed debut goal from Joe & the icing on the cake was 3 excellent finishes from Lewis C to complete a well deserved hat-trick.

Kings Stanley though kept going & got a consolation goal from the penalty spot after Luke had seen his penalty well saved by the Kings Stanley goalie & then hit the post from the rebound.

This was the best performance of the season so far from the players & their work rate to get the ball coupled with how well they passed it when they got the ball was a delight to watch. Squad- Conor, Josh, Ben, Luke (Capt), George, Tom, Euan, Jamie, Callum, Charlie, Lewis C, Max, Lewis W & Joe.

Player of the Match- On a day when you could've made a case for any of the 14 players Lewis Cholod got the nod ahead of George & Jamie for a energetic performance & 3 well taken goals.Oh & the smile on his face when the 3rd goal sailed over the goalies head clinched the award.
