31 Mar 2013 - Greenmeadow Youth (A)

After the break in Holland we returned to League action with the re-arranged game vs. Greenmeadow Youth & with Lewis Ward, George & Charlie all unavailabe & Josh not starting due to illness it was going to be interesting to see how the boys responded. We were able to bring in Ollie Hopegood & Lewis Dickinson, who was making his Bassett debut so the squad was still full of quality.

The game was played on a very small pitch & both sides cancelled each other out in the early stages although Greenmeadow just about edged it without any real alarms in the Bassett defence of Ed, Luke, Ben & Ollie, who were in top form in front of the ever alert Conor.

The deadlock was broken in the 17th minute when a foul on Lewis gave Bassett a free kick 25 yards from goal on the left edge of the pitch & Euan hit a beauty into the top right hand corner giving the goalie no chance.

We had several corners which were delivered perfectly by Callum with both Euan & Ed unlucky not to score with headers as goaline clearances denied them. The boys were now playing some of the best football of the season with Jamie & Euan bossing the centre of midfield & Tom & Callum trying hard to make the pitch as wide as possible by hugging their touchlines.

Our front men Joe & Lewis were linking up well together & looked a real threat whenever we got the ball to them & in the 25th minute a cross shot from Lewis Cholod was turned in at the far post by Tom to give us a 2 goal lead.

At this point we would've easily accepted the half time whistle but the lads would'nt settle for this & in a 3 minute spell we scored 3 further goals through a close range header from Euan after a Callum corner & then both Joe & Lewis Cholod scored deserved goals with excellent finishes. To go in at half time 5-0 was a fantastic reward for a breathtaking first half from the boys.

It wasn't long into the 2nd half when Jamie broke up play in midfield & Tom duly ran through the defence & scored his 2nd goal of the game & in doing so,it was the 100th goal we've scored this season with a composed finish into the bottom corner.

We then started to rotate the players to save tired legs from the Holland trip, but this didn't affect the way we were passing the ball as Josh,Declan & Lewis Dickinson quickly got into their stride.
