With the mist over Ballards Ash clearing exactly on 10.30am, there was no delay to Bassett Yellows next league fixture against Calne. From the start Bassett went on the attack with good early chances being created by Jamie and Charlie. Calne also showed that they could play football as a break down the left needed a good diving save down to his right from Conor. Bassett's next goal opportunity came on 10 minutes when Ed's long ball from the back wasn't cleared by the Calne defence and Charlie latched onto the loose ball, his shot drifting narrowly wide.

Bassett did take the lead on 15 minutes when Euan won the ball in midfield and passed through to Declan. Declan advanced towards goal and slotted the ball past the advancing keeper with ease.

Bassett were in complete dominance of the game and due to stout defending chances were few and far between for Calne. The rotation of the defenders between Josh, Ben, Ed, Luke, Lewis W, George and Callum showed the versatility available within the squad and didn't impact on the performance at all. The boys display immense confidence and belief in each other to use the ball wisely, picking passes to fellow defenders or with the midfield, providing the sound basis on which to capitalise on the attacking flare.

It was after 22 minutes that Bassett did turn their dominance into a second goal when Jamie put the Calne defender under pressure and took possession of the ball. Jamie's cross found Charlie unmarked in the six yard box to score.

As half time approached Bassett went further ahead as quick thinking from Euan caught Calne unawares, Euan's free kick finding Lewis C out on the right. A quick one-two with Ben, then Lewis lifted a cross towards goal, the ball drifting into the net at the back post. Half-time: 3-0

Moments into the second half Bassett put the game beyond doubt as George, Lewis C and Tom combined to present a shooting opportunity for Declan to give him his brace. Bassset's fifth goal followed a minute later when pressure on the Calne defenders gave Tom the opportunity to twist and shoot on the turn, the ball flying past the Calne keeper.

It was now starting to appear that Bassett would score with almost every attack as on 42 minutes George cut in from the left, found Jamie whose shot from the edge of the box was fumbled for Tom to follow-up and score his second.

The tidal wave of “orange” shirts continued to batter the Calne defensive wall which managed to hold firm for another ten minutes before Euan harried for the ball on the edge of the penalty area, took control and hit a thunderbolt of a shot that was only ever going to end up in one place…. The roof of the net!

On 47 minutes, a crunching tackle from Luke at the back saw the ball fly to Euan, a look up and then a pass behind the defenders for Tom to run onto and calmly finish completing his hat trick. Full-time: 8-0

Coach's Match Analysis: Another very good performance from all 14 players who played some superb slick passing football that was a delight to watch. As well as scoring 8 good goals we created so many chances that were a result of good team play. As a team we also worked hard to limit the chances for Calne and the clean sheet was well deserved. Well done boys, keep up the work ethics and the high standards you've set yourselves and each other.

Player of the Match: A composed and impressive performance, showing that a well timed tackle and calm head can soon turn defence into attack. Today's POTM award goes to Josh Curtis.
