An afternoon kick off ensured that this match was not subject to any postponement due to a frozen pitch, but with the frost burnt away by the warm winter sunshine, a muddy and slippy pitch was left for Bassett's latest league game.

Due to the tricky conditions under foot Bassett took a little time to get going, their first chance came after 6 minutes when the ball was worked from left to right across the box, Charlie finding Tom who in turn found Ben, Ben unfortunately dragging his shot across goal and wide of the far post. A minute later Bassett took the lead when Ed cleared the ball from defence to Tom wide on the right. Tom passed the ball into Charlie whose shot/cross was met by Lewis C to score a true strikers goal.

Highworth created their first chance soon after going behind as they broke down the right and worked across the box. Excellent defending by Ben forced the Highworth striker wider and wider, eventually eliminating the danger. This was not the tide turning and Bassett maintained control of the game and created chances at the other end, Charlie meeting George's header which produced a fine save from the Highworth keeper.

Bassett extended the lead after 13 minutes when Tom and Charlie combined down the right, Tom running free to knock the ball into the back of the net. Moments later Bassett would have been further in front if it wasn't for a good reaction save by Mason Garland in the Highworth goal following a Euan free kick. Bassett continued to play stylish attacking football and Jamie came close to getting on the score sheet when he won the ball, twisted, turned, and was though on goal, unfortunately his shot went narrowly wide. Seconds later the Highworth keeper produced another fine diving save to deny Jamie as he and Charlie exchanged passes to create a shooting opportunity.

On 24 minutes a Bassett corner was cleared, Lewis W picked up the loose ball and passed out wide to Tom. Tom played the ball onto Charlie, who in turn laid it off back to Tom. Tom's initial shot was well saved but he was alert enough to pick up the rebound and fire it into the net to make it 3-0 Bassett. A minute later Bassett almost extended their lead as Charlie found Callum who crossed to Declan, whose shout went narrowly wide

Highworth did make a raid into the Bassett half on 27 minutes when a slip in the Bassett defence meant the Higworth forward was free on goal but before he could get a shot on goal, Ed and Luke crunched him in a double-team tackle, the ball flying out for a corner. The corner was not cleared by Bassett and when the ball was returned back across the box, Conor came off his line to show safe hands and pluck the ball out of the air.

Bassett's fourth goal came after some excellent passing football. Once again the team used the ball from the back, Luke under pressure passing to Lewis W, Lewis then passing through to Jamie. Jamie travelled through midfield and passed out to Joe who took the ball into the box and was fouled and awarded a penalty. Charlie took the spot kick and his fine strike was pushed away by the diving keeper and out for a corner. The deserved goal eventually came as Jamie latched out to Callum's corner and shot into the back of the net.

On the stroke of half time Bassett made it 5-0 as Callum's corner was knocked back across goal by Lewis C for Charlie to head home from close range. Half-time: 5-0

The second half started with all-out Bassett attack. Euan hit the post from long range and Declan watched his shot just loop over the bar and onto the roof of the net. Declan did get on the score sheet on 46 minutes when a Bassett corner was not cleared, firstly Luke and then Euan had blocked shots on goal, Declan, seizing on the lose ball and chipping over the keeper.

Bassett made it a magnificent seven following another passing move Lewis W, Luke and Josh were all involved moving the ball out of defence, Josh passing out right to George. George outpaced the Highworth leftback and crossed to Joe who scored with a quality strike.

Bassett almost went further into the lead when Euan's free kick rebounded back to him and an instant left foot half volley flew inches wide of the post. It did become 8-0 when Tom and George combined on the right to produce another fine save from the Highworth kepper, Lewis C picked up the lose ball and the keeper saved again. This time Joe was first to the ball and he found the back of the net.

Bassett made it 9-0 on 65 minutes when Charlie and Tom combined, Tom completing his hat trick with a low powerful shot.

As the full time whistle was due to be blown Highworth went on a counter attack and it seemed like all their team charged up the slope towards the Bassett goal. The calm head of Josh ensured that Bassett maintained their clean sheet as he read the play quickly got to the loose ball and cleared the danger. Full-time: 9-0
