Green Hat-Trick Downs Ciren

Rylands Way, 10th October 2009

Wootton Bassett Town avenged last week's disappointing draw with Cirencester United, defeating them 4-1 in the return fixture at Rylands Way thanks to a hat-trick from Alex Green.

Bassett did make hard work of their win though, falling behind to a 20th minute strike, which was to be the only goal of the opening half, from Darren Lucas.

However, with the onset of the second half, Dave Turner's side began to play some confident football and the goals soon followed.

Green knotted the scores up six minutes after the restart, and put his side ahead in the 65th minute. His hat-trick was completed with just under twenty minutes to go before Sam Collier netted his fourth goal of the season in the dying stages to put added gloss on the scoreline.

The victory did not see Bassett climb a place in the table, but a win of next week's visitors Letcombe will see them rise at least one rung up the league ladder.
