6 ‒ 1 |
Rylands Way, 25th August 2009
Headington Amateurs failed to live up to their billing as Hellenic League Division One West hotshots. The early season pacesetters in the goals for column instead left Rylands Way with their tails between their legs, as it was Wootton Bassett Town rather than them who did all the scoring, the home side racking up an impressive 6-1 victory.
Ryan Banks and Chris Oram put Bassett two to the good early on before the deficit was halved.
But by half time Bassett had established an unassailable 4-1 lead, with goals from Mitchell Wyatt and Terry Adams.
In the second half, Adams made it five before Banks became the second Bassett midfielder to notch a brace on the night.
After losing on Saturday to title favourites Slimbridge, the win provides Bassett with a huge confidence boost ahead of their FA Cup encounter with Brockenhurst, who themselves were involved in a match which finished 6-1 tonight. However they were on the receiving end, going down heavily at home to Wimborne Town, Bassett's FA Vase conquerors last year.
Victory also sees Bassett record their first league points and win of the year.
