Wisloe Road, 22nd August 2009
Going into their game at Wisloe Road, Wootton Bassett Town had lost all eight previous encounters with Slimbridge.
And the number in that loss column edged ever closer to moving into double figures following the hosts' 2-0 victory.
Bassett went into the game on a high following their midweek FA Cup victory over an impressive Westbury United, but their Gloucestershire opponents were always going to be a different kettle of fish, considering they feature a handful of players who guided them to their ill-fated Hellenic Premier title three seasons ago.
A goal in each half – courtesy of Steve Badham and an own goal – separated the two sides.
While manager Dave Turner was downhearted to see his side belatedly begin their league campaign with a defeat, it is no embarrassment going down to the current Division One West pacesetters, who are yet to drop a point, let alone concede a goal, in their opening four games.
Another test awaits Bassett as they host Headington Amateurs, who sit second with nine points from their opening four games, with a league-high 13 goals to boot.
