Bassett go back top of the league

Wootton Bassett Town A went back top of the league with a 4-1 away success at Hungerford against a well organised Wickham Wanderers side. It was very tight in the first half with both sides hitting the crossbar with powerful shots in the opening period. The home side in particular created a number of good openings but just failed to connect at the vital moment. With half time looming a quick passing move saw James Baker put clear on the right and his pin point cross was met well on the half volley by George Drewitt to put Bassett in front. The divisions' top scorer Phil Tearle extended the Bassett lead with another powerful shot into the roof of the net. Wickham then pulled one back and continued to push Bassett all the way. However, a second from Phil Tearle and one from James Baker secured the points for Bassett, lifting them back above Wroughton A. Wickham visit Wootton Bassett next week looking to get revenge for this defeat as both sides meet in the quarter final of the League Cup.
