Wootton Bassett Town A opened their season with a hard fought 6-3 home win over visitors Chalford. Chalford opened the scoring with a spectacular shot from the edge of the box. Tom Marchment equalised for Bassett before Chalford restored their lead with another well taken goal. Phil Tearle then scored for Bassett with a low driven shot into the left hand corner of the net. The same player then linked up with Tom Marchment, the latter putting Bassett in front for the first time. In the second half Bassett extended their lead with another strike from Phil Tearle. Twenty minutes from time Chalford reduced the deficit and pushed for the equaliser. However, Bassett put the game beyond the visitors when a Chalford player headed into his own net from a Dean Wason corner. Wason then completed the scoring with a spectacular long range shot to make the final score 6-3 to Bassett.
