A win for Bassett under the Rylands Way lights

Wootton Bassett Town moved above Malmesbury into fifth spot on Friday night following a 2-1 floodlit victory over Croft Juniors. In an excellent sporting contest, Croft played the more stylish passing football in the first period but the game turned round without a goal at the break. The deadlock was broken by a stunning solo goal from Philip Tearle. Tearle went on run which saw him go past three defenders and then fire an unstoppable shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net. Aaron Stevens then extended the lead for the home side with another spectacular goal, this time a scissor kick from the edge of the eighteen-yard box that again flew into the bottom corner of the net. Bassett had chances to increase their lead but Croft kept going and were rewarded with a goal five minutes from time and put the home side under a lot of pressure in the closing stages as they pressed for an equaliser.
