Bassett go down to strong Westbrook side

Treble winners from last season, Westbrook carried on where they left off, winning 4-1 away at Wootton Bassett. Shaun Harris put them in front on the half-hour mark with a powerful shot from 20 yards. Wootton Bassett then hit the crossbar through Phil Tearle and Tom Marchment just failed to net with the rebound. 1-0 to Westbrook at half time. Westbrook extended their lead within a minute of the restart when Matt Hobbs strength allowed him to get the better of the Bassett defence and fire in an unstoppable shot. The score remained 2-0 for much of the second period, with Westbrook dominating most of the play but failing to create any clear-cut chances. With 12 minutes to go Bassett gave themselves hope when Tom Marchment got behind the Westbrook defence and fired in off the far post. Eight minutes from time Matt Hobbs restored Westbrook's two goal cushion and Guy Whinfrey added a fourth a minute from the final whistle. A good win for Westbrook who looked an even more powerful outfit than last season.
