Comfortable win for Bassett in the Cup

Wootton Bassett Town were another side to have a comfortable passage through to the next round, defeating Lydiard Youth 8-0. Despite tremendous pressure Lydiard held out for twenty minutes before Tom Marchment opened the scoring. Stuart Smedley was at the far post to tap in a Phil Tearle cross to make it 2-0 to Wootton Bassett. Josh Dimond then made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after a handball by a Lydiard defender. Just before the break Lydiard had their one real chance of the half when a powerful shot from outside the box came back out off the crossbar and was scrambled away to safety. A header from Tom Marchment made it 4-0 just after the break. To their credit Lydiard continued to work hard and make it difficult for Bassett whose central midfield trio of Aaron Stevens, Josh Dimond and Callum Snooks dominated affairs with some excellent passing football. Late goals from Philip Tearle, Tom Marchment (securing a hat trick), Sean Toomey (penalty) and Jonny Aitkenhead gave the score line ensured a happy Bassett dressing room at the end.
