Bassett left to rue missed chances

Malmesbury came back from twice trailing Wootton Bassett Town to win all three points with two late strikes. Phil Tearle gave the visitors a 1-0 lead this after Bassett had missed a hatful of one-on-ones with the Malmesbury keeper. Dan Strange, Tom Marchment, Callum Snooks, Phil Tearle and Aaron Stevens all being clean through on at least one occasion but being unable to add to the goal tally. The second half continued in a similar vein with Bassett opening up the Malmesbury defence time after time but wasteful finishing again let them down. Bassett were made to pay when Malmesbury's substitute was upended in the box and a penalty given. Bassett keeper Sean Toomey saved the initial penalty from Ashley Bryant but the ball rebounded to Bryant who made no mistake from the rebound. Bassett again continued to create openings at the other end and Phil Tearle restored the lead following yet another one-on-one. Bassett had numerous further chances to put the game out of Malmesbury's reach but their wastefulness in front of goal was to cost them dearly when late strikes from Vincent Brown and Anthony King gave Malmesbury an improbable win on the overall balance of play.
