Heavy defeat at the hands of Wroughton 'A'

Wroughton A went second after a 5-1 win against Wootton Bassett Town. Wroughton raced into a 3-0 lead at the break despite Bassett having the better of the early play. A powerful run and finish from Adam Burson gave Wroughton the lead but then some sloppy defending allowed the visitors to really take the initiative. As Bassett sought to get back into the match they were caught out by the Wroughton offside trap on two or three occasions and the closest they came was when Shaun Mochan had a goal disallowed for a foul on keeper James Moore. After the break Bassett came back at Wroughton and pulled one back when top scorer Tom Marchment rifled a shot past Moore after a corner. Bassett then had a guilt edged chance to get back in the game but William McCurrach failed to convert from close in. With Bassett pushing to get that elusive goal Wroughton broke away at speed in a fine sweeping move and Adam Burson put the game beyond doubt. Burson finished the game with a personal tally of four, Carl Leppard getting the fifth. Special mention to Wroughton's midfield captain Sean Bailey who was outstanding throughout, creating a couple of the Wroughton goals with his precision passing and dominating the midfield battle from start to finish.
