Title hopes still alive after win over current leaders

Wootton Bassett Ladies kept their title hopes alive with a fine three nil win over current League leaders Chippenham Town. Bassett's mid field started brightly working hard to break up Chippenham's early play and soon began to take command of the game frustrating Chippenham. Bassett's first goal came on twenty minutes when Sarah Tyas won the ball for Bassett fed Kristy Hulse who threaded the ball through Chippenham's defence for Catherine Reid to break through and finish well past Chippenham's outstretched keeper. Before the break Reid added her second.

In the second half Chippenham started brightly but Bassett again worked hard to break up the play and hit Chippenham on the break and Bassett's lead was extended when Reid corner was turned into the Chippenham's own net by their defender under pressure from Bassett's forwards. As the game went on Chippenham began to pressure Bassett's defence and on one of their breaks won a penalty, which was brilliantly saved by Jodi Steenaart diving full stretch to her right. This save was repeated a minute later after Steenaart turned a low shot around her right hand post.

It looked like Chippenham might get a consolation goal when thy wee awarded a second penalty but opting for power Lucy Bailey shot high over the bar.

Final score Bassett 3 Chippenham 0. Bassett's player of the match was Sarah Tyas with another outstanding performance from Cara Stacey & Jodi Steenaart in goal.
