Bassett win contest of two previously unbeaten teams

With both teams previously unbeaten this season it was always going to be a close affair and so it proved to be with both teams starting off well working hard in a close fought mid field battle and it was the visitors who came close first on twenty mins. with Lucy Bailey forcing a fine save from Jodi Steenaart in the Bassett goal.

It was Bassett however who opened the scoring when Kirsty Hulse headed on Steenaart goal kick to put the influential Catherine Reid through one on one with the keeper, despite further chances at both ends the score remained 1 – 0 to Bassett at half time.

The break seemed to help Chippenham more than Bassett when straight from the kick off Chippenham set free Charlotte Johnson down the left who slipped past Tracie Mackeddie and put in a fine cross for Kim Sanger to slot home. This early goal seemed to effect Bassett who found it difficult to settle to their earlier work rate and Chippenham took full advantage taking the lead for the first time on 55mins. Chippenham further extended their lead from a free kick. Bassett then responded well almost straight away when rid hit the post after a solo run down the right and Emma Williams followed up the rebound from close range. Bassett then increased the pressure and from a resulting corner Sarah Tyas volleyed home a Reid corner.

Bassett then increased the pressure and after more good work from Reid laying the ball off to Natasha Burson to place the ball in the top left hand corner just beyond the Chippenham Keeper.
