Win

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 14 girls played Marlborough Youth Raiders away for the second time on Halloween weekend. Could Bassett make it two wins out of two at Elcott Lane?

The game got off to a flying start, with the Blues getting an early goal from a free kick. Elise Dart stepped up to take it, and the ball was fumbled in by the keeper.

The girls didn't stop there and claimed their second through Alisa Allan, who tapped the ball in at the back post at the end of Sienna Matthews' driving run and cross.

Bassett had a slight lapse in concentration and didn't put in a challenge on an attacking Marlborough player, resulting in a scoreline of 2-1.

Mia Hughes then broke through the defence and cooly slotted the ball home to put the Blues further ahead.

Not long after, Alisa found space to run into and shoot for her brace.

The girls went into half time 5-1 up after Mia fired a rebound into the back of the net, and things were looking positive for Bassett.

In the second half, the away side would have to push up the slope, fighting against the sun and wind.

However, the girls weren't deterred by this and kept pushing for more goals.

Mia used her skilful footwork to beat her defender and smash the ball past the keeper, earning herself a hat trick.

Comfortable with their lead, Bassett switched off and gifted Marlborough two goals, leading to an exciting 6-3 scoreline.

Sienna edged the girls back further ahead with a calm finish, but the team later conceded another poor two goals after not clearing their lines properly.

Eventually, Bassett were awarded a penalty which Mia made no mistake in putting away, sealing her fourth of the game and a remarkable 8-5 win.

Mia was awarded Coaches' Player of the Match for her creativity, and Lily Supporters' Player for her versatility across the pitch.

A strong and promising performance from the girls, and a fully deserved 3 points. Well done!
