The Under 14s faced league leaders Durrington Seahawks on Saturday on a tricky rock hard, sloped pitch. Despite performing well, Bassett were beaten 2-0.
The Blues started well - composed on the ball and battling hard against some physical challenges. Both teams had a few close chances to gaining the lead, but Bassett and keeper Chloe Parkin defended well, stopping Durrington from scoring. Alisa Allan almost found the back of the net early on, her shot sailing just wide of the post. Despite this effort, the girls went into half time 0-0.
Bassett found themselves on top in the second half with Sienna Matthews and Mia Hughes attacking with pace. Mia was unfortunate to see her strike saved by the Durrington keeper, which was Bassett's best attempt at scoring.
Unfortunately, Durrington eventually slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the goal and there was nothing Chloe could do to save it.
The girls got another sucker punch minutes later when the ball bobbled up and was volleyed in by the striker, the game finishing 2-0 to Durrington.
It was unlucky and undeserved, but the Blues battled well and should be proud of themselves.
Player of the match went to Izzy Ellis and Sienna Matthews for great performances. Unlucky girls, good effort.
