Late treble seals place in Women’s County Cup quarter final

Sustain Stadium, Gerard Buxton Sports Ground, 16 October 2022

Three goals in the last twenty minutes helped Royal Wootton Bassett Town seal a 3-0 Wiltshire County Women's Cup first round win against Salisbury and a place in the last eight of the competition.

Bassett's County League opponents put up a strong fight and were in the game for the majority of the match as home manager Simon Harrison used the contest to rotate his side.

However, Bassett's quality ultimately showed late on, with the strength added off the bench proving the difference between the teams and ensuring there would be no cup upset.

Leading scorer Libby Davies came on to score twice, while Maddy Elliott netted her first of the season to determine the outcome of the game.

The victory is only Bassett's second of the season - the other having also come in cup action in the Vitality Women's FA Cup.

And Harrison and his side will be aiming to make that three wins from three cup outings next weekend when they travel to Torquay United with a place in the FA Cup first round on the line.
