Under 13 Blues lose to top of the table Salisbury United

Despite a spirited second half performance, Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 13 Blue lost an entertaining home game to top of the table Salisbury United.

Played against a strong head wind Bassett Blues weathered a tough first half with goals in quick succession mid-way through giving Salisbury a deserved lead. Bassett struggled to make significant challenge on the Salisbury goal, the best chances all falling to Noah Cranswick-Coates from a header and a well saved shot at the end of the first half.

Basset went 3-0 down following a long rage effort in the opening minute of the second half. From that point the game was a very different story - now aided by the wind Bassett were able to dominate the second half.

Noah Cranswick-Coates hit the post with a fine individual effort which proved to be the catalyst for a great spell for Bassett. Cranswick-Coates set up Beau Hicks for his 16th goal of the campaign before Bassett brought themselves back into the game with a fine Cranswick-Coates finish to make it 3-2.

In every way it felt like Bassett had the wind behind them and continued to dominate possession. Just as it felt like an equaliser was inevitable Salisbury were able to break and score a fourth against the run of play giving goalkeeper Tom Davies no chance from close-range.

The last minutes played out without significant chances on either side. Next up are Croft Juniors.
