Late fireworks for Under 13 Blues

With two wins from their opening three games Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 13 Blue knew that a win against Croft Junior Blue would likely take them into the automatic promotion spots in North Wilts League Division Two. Trailing for much of the game, a stunning second half performance sealed a fine 6-1 victory.
A languid first-half gave little hint of the fireworks which were to follow. Bassett created a number of chances in an even first half, the best of which came from Joshua Sturmey set pieces and a Roberto Cinquegrani volley which went just wide. However it was Croft who took the lead mid-way through the first-half with a shot that gave Tom Davis no chance. The score line could have been far worse had it not been for a stunning Tom Davis stop at the end of the first half and some heroic clearances from Cameron Isles and Louis Portlock.
Half-time gave the team the opportunity to re-group and the second-half started far more positively. Joshua Stormey had a good chance one-on-one with the 'keeper, before another good Tom Davis save kept the score at 1-0.
It was midway through the second half that the match changed. Ed Greenouff had a left footed shot saved before curling a right-footed shot high into the top corner of the net. Sam Smith added a second shortly after with a cool shot after breaking through from midfield.
Croft spirits were broken with ten minutes left. A world-class volley from 20 yards from Roberto Cinquegrani was completely unstoppable. Cinquegrani then added a second shortly after from a penalty before late strikes from Thomas Nichols and an outrageous 20 yard lob from Finley Hyde completed the comeback in spectacular fashion.
Next up is the reverse fixture against Croft Junior Blue away where manager Martin Jefferies will be keen to ensure his team's fine winning run continues.
