Under 13 Blues power to 6-2 victory at home to Hungerford

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under Blue secured a comfortable home victory to maintain their position at the top of North Wilts League Division Two. Now boasting five wins out of their opening six matches, Bassett knew a home win against promotion rivals Hungerford would put them in prime position for a promotion charge as the first half of the season nears completion.
Bassett got off to a dream start with a Finley Hyde goal slotted home following a Beau Hicks powerful shot which could only be parried by the Hungerford 'keeper. Bassett continued to press and the second goal had a familiar feel mid-way through the first half as a strongly struck Ed Greenouff strike was saved only for Beau Hicks to make no mistake from close range.
Sam Smith nearly capped a phenomenal first half performance with a goal only to be denied by a last ditch tackle. Ed Greenouff made it three seconds after moving into the strike role with a well taken finish and nearly added a second shortly after only to be denied by the post.
Shortly after the break a dangerous cross from Caden Jefferies deflected past the 'keeper to provide the fourth goal of the morning.
Somewhat against the run of play Hungerford pulled a goal back before hitting the post. With Hungerford looking more dangerous the Bassett fifth was welcomed with Ed Greenouff feeding Noah Cranswick-Coates to confidently finish. Once again Hungerford pulled a goal back before Greenouff and Cranswick-Coates once again linked to allow the latter to confidently claim his second of the afternoon.
Manager Martin Jefferies will have been delighted by the size of victory against a side that had gone into the game only twopoints behind. Next up is an away trip to FC Calne Youth Galaxy.
