Royal Wootton Bassett Town Under 13 Blue's North Wilts League Cup campaign came to an end at Gerard Buxton Sports Ground today.
Despite a heroic cup run, the magic of the cup ended against top division, champions elect FC Abbey Meads Youth Grey.
Abbey Meads have started the season in imperious fashion and remain unbeaten, brushing aside all competition.
The first half saw Abbey Meads start strongly, forcing a save from the Bassett 'keeper in the first minute of the game and a second from a free kick moments later.
On 4 minutes, Abbey Meads broke the deadlock, the ball landing in the box fortuitously to a Meads player, 1-0.
Meads continued to press the Bassett defence and keeper who remained resilient, blocking every Abbey Meads attack.
On 21 minutes Tom Nicholls forced an error making a chance for himself and pulling the shot agonisingly wide from the edge of the box.
Bassett in Cranswick Coates and Lynch blocked further efforts and on 31 minutes a punch out from the Bassett 'keeper saw Greenouff collect the ball and put through Nicholls only to see his top corner effort clawed away by the keeper.
A stroke of luck for Abbey Meads just before half time saw the Bassett 'keeper save one on one only for the rebound to fall to a meads player who hit the post, the shot ricocheting off the post and in off the keeper - a remarkable fluke.
3-0 at half time - a good first half performance with little reward, heads began to drop.
Bassett were now second to every ball, losing the 50/50's that were won in previous games.
The second half is one the Bassett management, supporters and players will want to forget, but not without promise, Greenouff, Nicholls and Cinquegrani all having chances.
Final score, 11-0. The league now becomes Bassett focus as they seek to return to winning ways away at Robins White on the 20th October.
