Coe keeps Ladies' run going

Lisa Coe scored the only goal of the game as Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies defeated Almondsbury 1-0 to make it five straight wins in hte South West Women's Football League Eastern Division.

Facing an Almondsbury side they beat 2-0 just last weekend, Bassett were party to another closely fought, tight affair. A strong wind helped neither side, and, despite Bassett enjoying plenty of first half possession, half time arrived with the scores still deadlocked.

Emily Arrell crafted the first good opening five minutes after the restart when she ran through on goal. But she went for power over placement and wound end up striking the crossbar.

Just a few minutes later Almondsbury had a golden opportunity to take the lead. They seized on a mix-up between Jess Dent and 'keeper Abi Footner, but the Bassett shotstopper recovered to pull off a great save to deny the initial shot and Laura Jefferies was on hand to clear the ball away as it trickled along the goalline.

Bassett then took advantage of that let off as Coe found the net on the hour mark. Forward Hayley Huckin delivered an accurate cross into the box and Coe was on hand to produce a clever flick to guide the ball into the net.

And it proved to be all that Bassett required as they preserved a second consecutive clean sheet and pulled to within just a single point of leaders Frampton Rangers.
