Ardley strike early to end Supplementary Cup hopes

Gerard Buxton Sports Ground, Wednesday 29th March 2017

Two early goals condemned Royal Wootton Bassett Town to defeat against Ardley United in the Hellenic League Supplementary Cup third round.

There was to be no extension of Royal Wootton Bassett Town's season beyond Saturday's final league fixture away at Oxford City Nomads as Rich Hunter's side fell to a 2-0 defeat against Ardley United in the third round of the Supplementary Cup.

The Oxfordshire side, who are aiming for a cup double, have been flying on all fronts in recent weeks.

And they were fast out of the blocks against Bassett, gaining a fourth minute lead when defender Chris Jackson headed home from a set piece.

Their advantage was soon doubled as skilful forward Jack Ross got in on the act.

After that, Bassett weren't really in the game, their deficit proving too much to overcome as Ardley held on relatively comfortably.
