Helmore bedevils Bassett

Royal Wootton Bassett Town fell to a second convincing defeat in a matter of games as they were beaten 3-0 by league leaders Thatcham Town.

Three first half goals were all the damage leaders Thatcham Town needed to inflict upon Royal Wootton Bassett Town to comprehensively claim revenge for their loss against Rich Hunter's side just a month ago.

Josh Helmore led the way for the Kingfishers, scoring a pair on an evening when he was a constant source of trouble for the Bassett defence. His first arrived after just twelve minutes and came in fine fashion. Receiving a pass on the edge of the area with his back to goal, the forward turned and swept his powerful shot beyond Curtis Meare and into the bottom corner. He then demonstrated his predatory instincts eight minutes before the break, reacting fastest to a blocked shot and steering in from close range.

Minutes later James Tennant rounded off a well worked move down the left hand side with a confident finish on the turn from twelve yards.

The latter two goals had followed a prolonged stoppage, which came as a result of Thatcham's Ashleigh James sustaining a serious leg break when he landed awkwardly. Never something you want to see, Bassett wish James all the best with his recovery and hope his absence from the game is not an overly lengthy one.
