Curtis goal cuts title chasing Forest of Dean down to size

22 Mar 2015 - Forest of Dean Ladies (A)

Wootton Bassett Town Ladies returned to winning ways away to title chasing Forest of Dean in Division One of the Gloucestershire Women's League on Sunday. A single Lisa Curtis goal, her first for the club, sealed the win for Bassett.

The team pressed hard right from the start, creating plenty of chances from long balls through to the strikers, but the tall back line of Forest of Dean stood strong to deny the away team any breakthrough.

With the scores still level after the break Bassett tried to change up their style of play and their fluent passing really paid off as they again created wave after wave of attacks on the Forest of Dean goal. Player of the match Zoe Holland found plenty of space on the right side of midfield as did Emily Bogg on the left. Good link-up play between them, fellow midfielders Amber Egerton and Sam Wood created some good passages of passing play to keep Bassett on top.

More Bassett pressure eventually lead to the goal on 75 minutes, which Lisa Curtis finished well into the roof of the net leaving the home keeper with no chance of stopping it.

Forest of Dean were restricted to a couple of breakaway chances, but couldn't find a way through the Bassett defence. More of the same pressure from Bassett followed for the remaining minutes of game, but one goal was all that was needed to seal the win.

Victory ensures Bassett retain fourth place and are now a point behind Forest of Dean, albeit having played five games more than their rivals who they meet again on Easter Sunday.
