Boco beaten as Ladies tough it out

18 Jan 2015 - AEK Boco Ladies (H)

Two games, two wins. It's been a fine start to 2015 for Wootton Bassett Town Ladies, whose upturn in form continued with a hard fought 2-1 home victory against AEK Boco Ladies.

The three points helped Becky Gammon's team close the gap to their Bristol-based rivals to just two points and keep Bassett in the hunt for a possible top three finish.

In a finely poised contest, Bassett took the lead through Laura Jefferies, whose sweetly struck free kick from the right side floated straight in to the back of the net.

The lead was then doubled when Claire White latched onto Sam Wood's ball over the top and slotted calmly beyond the visitors' keeper for her fifth of the season.

Bassett had to endure a nervous finale when a failure to clear their lines allowed AEK Boco to halve the deficit with a scrappy goal.

But Boco's comeback attempt was in the end thwarted, with the goals from Jefferies and White proving enough to secure another valuable triumph.
