25 Jan 2015 - Bristol and West (A)

An inspired performance by Joni Warner helps Wootton Bassett Town Ladies to their third win on the bounce lifting them into fourth place of the Gloucestershire Women's League Division One.

Three wins from three games has seen a fine start to the New Year from Bassett and the latest 2-0 away win against Bristol and West has seen them climb into the top half of the table.

Bassett had the greater possession from the off as they threw everything they had at the home team, but had nothing to show for their efforts in the first half.

Joni Warner, who re-joined the club in November for 3 months before returning to coach soccer in the United States marshalled the midfield well and helped create chance after chance, but the Bristol and West defence stood strong and Bassett couldn't find a way through.

Still goalless at half-time, but Bassett again came out strong from the re-start and their patience and possession finally paid off just before the hour.

A perfect cross from Megan Tidy on the right found Kelli Oakes in the box who laid the ball into the path of Amber Eggerton who calmly slotted past the keeper to score her first of the season.

Joni Warner's impressive performance and last match for Bassett this season was capped off by a sweetly struck shot from outside the box to double Bassett's lead.

Strong defending from the Bassett back line and stand-in keeper Laura Gammon sealed the win in an excellent all-round team performance.
