Ladies see unbeaten streak ended

15 Feb 2015 - Almondsbury UWE (A)

Wootton Bassett Town Ladies slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat away to second place Almondsbury UWE in their recent game in the Gloucestershire County Women's League Division One.

Bassett, unbeaten in the last five games, couldn't find a way through the physically strong Almondsbury team and having been denied two clear-cut penalties it was clear to see it just wasn't going to be their day!

Both teams started strongly, but Bassett struggled to play their usual passing game on the very sticky Bristol pitch and the home team were definitely at an advantage having played on the pitch before.

The Almondsbury players reacted quicker to loose balls and it wasn't long into the first half before they took the lead and started to command the game.

The Bassett team kept working hard to get the ball down and play football despite the numerous long balls pumped forward from the Almondsbury defence and they pressed well for much of the second half creating plenty of chances.

With no goal to show for their efforts, a loss was a disappointing result, but the Girls will continue to work hard and aim to return to winning ways after a week's break when they face local rivals Cirencester Town on 1st March.
