Bassett "swim" through to last four in cup battle

What can I say; all my notes have turned into one soggy pile so I must apologise for the lack of content in this report. The weather was awful today with rain and wind whipping across the football pitch, which got harder as the game progressed.

Bassett were the stronger side through the day as they slipped around the sodden pitch. This was a game that needed strength and fight to pull out a win which all the lads were up for. Bassett took the lead very early, which was made by Ben, who was strong down the right running around the Lydiard Youth defenders at ease, Ben supplied a cross which found Fraser, Fraser dug the ball out of the mud and struck the ball into the back of the net. Bassett take the lead.

But then Lydiard Youth pull one back, Bassett were so much in control the defence were pushing forward and got caught out and Lydiard Youth took advantage and levelled the game. Fraser was working hard in midfield along with Callum M and Josh W. Ben and Josh H quite frankly took over the right hand side of the pitch running around the Lydiard attempting too play a passing game in what was atrocious conditions. Bassett were the stronger team and never looked pressurised by Lydiard Youth. Half time score 1-1

The second half kicked off and I had a serious pen failure! So from what's left of my memory. Our defence of Regan, Jack, Josh H and Scott worked hard in the second half and with the help of Jake kept a clean sheet. Josh W, Tyler and Arron ran their socks off through mud. Joe did see the ball today and was needed to make some brave saves and I believe that he hurt his right leg in the process. Now Bassett had turned up the pressure, Sam looked like he wanted a goal and it came. A great pass from Tyler played in Sam who took the ball around the goal keeper and cracked the ball into the back of the net. Bassett take the lead.

It was not long before Bassett secured the match as Ben was picked out by Callum G, which allowed Ben to crack in the third, and I must say well deserved. Jake came on and worked hard on the left back position and very quickly found space to play in Josh W.

Then the final Bassett goal, which was dug out of the goal mouth mud by Sam, who found the back of the net, final score 1-4 to Bassett.

I know I have missed loads of good play. Sorry about that. All the players worked hard today in terrible conditions, I know I was cold and wet some of the lads were suffering as well. Well done to both players and parents for sticking it out.
