Bassett welcome Alderbury to the North Wilts League

Within two minutes of the first half Bassett looked the stronger team, passing the ball out wide at every opportunity. The first five minutes set the pace of the game with Callum M taking over the left wing leaving the Alderbury right back in a spin, which allowed Callum to cross the ball, picking out Fraser, whose shot was saved. Bassett were putting so much pressure on Alderbury they did not know how to respond. Bassett attacked the Alderbury goal again and again forcing four consecutive corners, which were well taken by Jake, 'What a right foot that young man has'. Josh W broke free from the on coming defenders to get the shot away, but the shot was hit directly at the goal keeper for an easy save. Again and again Bassett attacked through Fraser and Arron supported by Tyler. A second break for Josh W, but again the Alderbury goal keeper makes the save. Fraser won the ball in midfield playing a great ball into the feet of Tyler, Tyler sprints with the ball, goal bound, but the shot is saved yet again, but was awarded a corner for his efforts. Jake steps up for the corner, a short corner is taken, with the ball passed back to Jake who thumps the ball, with spin, towards the six yard box, Fraser jumps, and headers the ball, but the ball hits the post!

Bassett were on top and in full swing with their passing game which Alderbury had no response for. Arron won the ball on the right playing a great pass to Fraser, Fraser had a shot at distance and hit the crossbar. Bassett's defence of Jack, Jake, Regan and Scott did not have much to do at this stage, but when called upon defended well. Regan started the move that lead to Bassett's first goal, a great ball from Regan down the line to Arron opened up the Alderbury defence allowing the midfield trio to pass the ball to Callum M, Callum ran at the goal keeper and cracked the ball into the back of the Alderbury net. Bassett take the lead and desirably so.

Bassett were winning every ball placing immense pressure on Alderbury's defence. A great pass from Josh W found Sam who ran goal bound and found him self one on one with the goal keeper, Sam struck the ball, but it sailed over the top of the cross bar. Then the move of the day, Tyler played a lofted pass to Fraser who headed the ball into the feet of Sam, Sam struck the ball goal bound, but it was just wide. Again Bassett place pressure on Alderbury, a great pass from Josh W played into the feet of the on form Callum M, Callum finds himself one on one with the goal keeper, and slots the ball into the net for Bassett's second. Fraser made a big tackle but come of worse and needed to leave the field, Arron moved into the centre of midfield and Ben dropped into the right wing position. Bassett were still camped in the Alderbury half as the passing just left them ball watching, which lead to Callum's hat-trick. Callum M was picked out by Josh W with a perfect pass, Callum runs goal bound and strikes the ball, it looked like the Alderbury goal keeper is going to make the save, but the ball runs between his legs and rolls into the back of the net. Half time score, Bassett are three up.

The second half and Alderbury respond well to their half time talk. They came back at Bassett, in the main by playing the ball over the top. Which pushed Bassett back on occasions. Josh H was playing right back and supported Ben on the right, Ben attacked and helped with defending duties when required. Then Alderbury attacked breaking through our defence, the shot was made but lacked any direction running well wide of the Bassett goal. Alderbury had a very good spell pushing Bassett back, a well worked move gave Alderbury some space for the shot, but the shot went over the top of Joe's goal. Again Alderbury push forward, they did not look that dangerous, but managed to get a shot away from distance. Joe, cool as you like, catches the ball. Then Bassett managed to turn on the pressure again, Callum M finds some space down the left, passed the ball to Tyler who smacked the ball goal bound, but the shot was saved. Bassett were back on top pushing Alderbury back into their own half, Ben found some space on the right, and played a pass to Sam allowing Sam to run at the Alderbury goal, but the Alderbury goal keeper saved Sam's shot. Alderbury make a break down Bassett's right, Regan makes a great tackle but falls on his shoulder, Regan is replaced. Alderbury break again, and find some space to get the shot away, Scott throws his body in the way and blocks the first shot, but the second heads goal bound, Joe pulls off a good save. Bassett's fourth was a very well worked goal, Callum G passes the ball from Midfield to Josh W, Josh W, passes the ball to the generally unmarked Callum M, who is given the space to run at Alderbury, a great pass to Sam, who shoots finds the back of the Alderbury goal. Bassett were pushing Alderbury back into their own half taking control of the game. Callum G played a good pass to Arron who ran down the right supported by Ben, Ben cut back passing the ball to Fraser, Fraser passed the ball to Callum M, who ran down the left wing, and managed to get the shot away, which was pushed around the post by the Alderbury goal keeper for the corner. Sam took the corner and found Tyler who played a pass to Fraser, Fraser shoots, but the ball went to the left hand side of the Alderbury goal. Final score 4-0 to Wootton Bassett.

A great game to watch as Bassett passed the ball around and cut through Alderbury. Well done lads.
