Bassett too strong for Avonvale

It took five minutes for Bassett to find their passing game as it looked like our forward were guilty of bunching and not pushing into space. Arron was always looking good down the right and a cross from Arron found Sam in the goal mouth, but Sam could not find the back of the net on this occasion. The Avonvale defence looked strong forcing Bassett to pass the ball around to find the opening, which took a long time to come. The first strike came from Fraser who struck the ball over the crossbar. Now Bassett were starting to find the passing game, Callum M found some space on the left and played in the cross towards Sam, Sam's shot was saved. Avonvale never looked like scoring as they struggled to get the ball out of their own half, which was made more difficult by the strong wind. Bassett had many chances but could not convert until, the break through came. A well worked team effort, a pass from Arron from the right to Fraser who played into Josh Way who laid the ball off to Callum M who crossed the ball towards goal. The cross beat the Avonvale goal keeper which allowed Tyler to smack the ball into the back of the net. Bassett one up. Josh H was supporting Arron well on the left and with Fraser supporting from midfield it made the left had side strong.

After some very good football Arron picked up an injury and was replaced by Ben. Fraser picked up the ball only to be fouled some five meters outside Avonvale's goal area. Up steps Tyler. Tyler bends the ball from Left to right directly into the top right hand corner of the goal, just brilliant. Bassett two up and placing more pressure on their opponents. Bassett's passing game was improving and space started to appear, Ben and Sam worked the one two's which gave Ben the opportunity to shoot, but it was just wide. Mean while at the back there was very little action for Regan, Josh H, Jack and Scott to deal with this was confirmed by the fact that Joe was sat on the floor having a rest. Callum M worked the left had side well and managed to get the cross into Tyler who stuck the ball well but hit the cross bar. Then number three. Again Fraser won the ball from midfield and played the perfect pass to Sam who struck the ball very sweetly into the top corner of the goal. Three up. Ben broke down the l eft and managed to play in Josh Way, Josh had a shot but just over the top of goal. Bassett were now very much on top, but in fairness to Avonvale they were doing all they could to stop Bassett from Playing. The next goal was well taken by Tyler, Avonvale's goal keeper was struggling to produce any distance from the goal kicks, and Tyler picked off one of the goal kicks and struck it into the back of the net. Scott came off and Jake came on. I must say that the Bassett's team has strength in depth I'm not sure this is the same for all teams within our league. Half time Bassett lead by 4 goals.

Even though Bassett were now playing into the wind, Bassett started very strongly in the second half with Sam forcing the Avonvale's goal keeper to tip the ball over his cross bar for the corner. Jake took the corner which had height and power, the ball beat most of the players in the goal mouth and Sam managed to tuck the ball away for Basset's fifth. Again Bassett break into the strong wind, beating what had been a strong defence, Callum M drove through their backs and laid the ball off to Sam who stuck the ball directly at the Avonvale's goal keeper who could not hold onto the ball, allowing Sam to hit the ball into the back of the net. Bassett were now six up. Scott was on and Tyler came off. When there was some defending today it seamed to be down Bassets left, each time this was dealt with by Jake and Jack. Ben was working the right hand and managed to feed in some good passes but Bassett could not convert all the crosses. Joe was now off and Tyler was now in goal! And Joe was placed upfron t, we all would have liked to see Joe score. Avonvale did not have a response for Bassett as the passing was crisp and to feet and all the time the gaps were being found. Bassett was awarded a corner which Fraser converted for Bassett's seventh. Fraser picked up a knock and Josh H was on. Josh instantly played in Callum M on the left who laid the ball off to Scott who played the ball into Joe who laid the ball off to Ben who shot and scored. Bassett eight up with five minutes to play. Again Callum pulled out the perfect pass to Ben who cracked the ball into the back of the net for Bassett's ninth. Then a break by Avonvale, Tyler came running out of his goal and brought down their attacker for a free kick. The free kick was taken and saved by Tyler. Bassett's tenth was well worked by Joe and Ben to give a goal scoring opportunity to Callum who made no mistake and found the back of the net.

Again this was a good game to watch, I think Bassett were ball watching a little today and waiting for the ball to come to them. Also our midfield players and forwards were drawn into the corners too many times losing their normal width. Saying that a 10-0 win is a great start to any cup competition. Also a special thanks to Paul Garlick for refereeing who, I hope you agree was very fair. Also I would like to say a very big thank to, Allan, who agreed to run the line. It takes focus, speed and agility to run the line, so who's available for next week!!!
