Rampant Bassett take victory

As soon as the whistle blew you knew that we were in for a high scoring game with Bassett attacking every ball with passion and meaning. The first goal must have taken, all of two minutes, into the first half with a well worked pass from Fraser across to Sam who stuck it into the back of the net, Bassett one up within two minutes! Bassett were passing the ball very well from the back four of Regan, Jack, Scott and Josh H towards midfield. The effortless link up play was stunning to watch. Then the second, a pass over the top from Scott found Sam who took it around the goal keeper for Bassett's second, two up and five minutes on the clock. Then a break from Abbey Meads lead to a cross which Joe saved with some ease. Then a counter attack by Ben down the right, who found Arron and a fantastic piece of individual skill found the back of the net, Bassett now three up. Again Fraser won the ball in midfield and laid off the perfect pass Arron who again hit the back of the net. Basset were now four up and with only ten minutes on the clock.

This was becoming a real team effort with quality passing and support play by Callum M and Josh as Bassett moved forward to take their fifth goal, which was well worked by Fraser who found the room to play a pass across goal which allowed Ben to tap in his first. Bassett were now rampant not allowing Abbey Meads to touch the ball never mind play football. Josh W made a break down the middle of the park only to meet a wall of defenders, Josh came of worse in the tackle and was replaced by Tyler. Tyler was on the ball from the off playing a perfect ball to Ben who shot, but the Abbey Meads goal keeper managed to make the save. Then one of the goals of the match, a well worked ball down the left from Fraser found Callum, Callum made the run down the left and made the perfect cross back to Fraser, who smacked the ball in the back of the net. Bassett are now six up. Then again from midfield Tyler played in Arron who was not going to miss today, stuck the ball in the back of the net for Bassett's seventh. Then from the re start Basset won the ball allowing Callum Meehan to break down the left and again playing the perfect pass into Arron who scored again. That was Bassett's eighth goal and half time loaming. The first half did see many off side calls from our front two as they were keen to break down the Abbey Meads defence. The last break of the first half came from Ben who drove the ball down the right, then playing a perfect weighted pass to Sam who stuck the ball wide. Halftime now and Bassett out played Abbey Meads eight goals to nil. In the past Basset have played games and some of the players have been a little selfish on the ball, but today there was no sign of this, as it looked just as important to set the goal up as to score, it was great to watch.

The second half kicked off with two changes, Jake and Callum Garlick came on. Bassett's ninth was delivered very quickly as Josh Way played a perfect pass into the feet of Sam who as calm as you like took the ball around the Abbey Meads goal keeper to hit the back of the net. Fraser found some space and released Ben for Bassett's tenth. Bassett again with some very good passing played in Callum Meehan who cracked the ball in for Bassett's eleventh goal. Fraser found himself one on one with the goal keeper and went for the chip over the top which was saved by the Abbey Meads keeper. Sam again on target from a pass from Fraser, Bassett are now twelve up. Tyler picked up a knock and was replaced by Arron, who again demonstrated his form and cracked in Bassett's thirteenth goal. Bassett's passing game was again confirmed by a goal which started by a pass from Scott, who found Josh who in turn found Sam who slotted the ball around the goal keeper for Bassett's fourteenth. At this point Reg an and Scott were replaced at the back. Abbey meads broke on their right and managed to chip Joe for their first, well taken goal, the score was now 14-1. Both Jake and Callum Garlick defended well as Abbey Meads placed some pressure on the back four.

Bassett came straight back, a pass by Sam played in Tyler who cracked the ball into the back of the net, for Bassett's fifteenth goal. I think it was at this point in the second half that Joe managed to have a cat nap for ten minutes.

Bassett's sixteenth goal was I think one of Sam's best, Arron worked hard in the corner managing to cross the ball with some height, Sam headed the ball into the back of the net, just perfect. A good ball from Regan, passed in front of Josh Way gave Josh a one on one with the Abbey Meads keeper, Josh struck the ball well into the left hand corner. Bassett were now seventeen up. Then some luck for Abbey meads, a penalty was awarded for a handball. You just knew it was not going to be a good day for Abbey Meads as the penalty was stuck wide of the post, not forcing Joe to make a save. Then the run of the match Regan took the ball from just outside Bassett's goal line all the way to the Abbey Meads goal mouth, mean while most of the Bassett squad was screaming for the cross, like a race horse with blinkers on Regan ignored all the shouts and drove for goal. But the shot was just wide, if it had gone in, this would have been goal of the match. Unlucky Regan. Then number eighteen, a well worked pass f rom Tyler found Sam who stuck the back of the net for his seventh of the day. Then for me one of the goals of the match, a well worked pass from Callum Garlick found Arron, who struck the ball superbly well bending the ball from right to left to find the back of the net for Arron's sixth. Bassett scored nineteen goals in 55 minutes of football. For those of you who like your stats, Bassett averaged a goal every 2.8 minutes of football played, now you must say that's very impressive against any side. Then within the last minute Abbey Meads scored their second. Final score 19-2 to Bassett.

A game which was one sided like this can be very demoralising for the opposition, I would like to say well done to Abbey Meads whose heads never dropped throughout the game.

Bassett were brilliant today with the passing game on top form, together with the lack of selfishness it was a joy to watch. A great team effort, well done lads. It was good to see that setting up the goals was as pleasing as scoring them.
