Boys battle right to the end

This was our seventh league match of the season and the match was at home against Greenmeadow 'A'. We started well enough but Greenmeadow took the lead with an unstoppable long-range effort. We had changed the team around from our previous games and it took a while for the players to adjust. During the first ten minutes we were not as well organised as we should have been and Greenmeadow scored two more goals to make the score three nil. We pulled a goal back five minutes before half time when Eddie Geerah struck with an excellent long-range effort. At the interval we trailed by three goals to one.

The second half kicked off and we continued to battle well. We more than matched Greenmeadow all over the pitch and pushed hard to get back into the game. After having most of the play Greenmeadow scored from a corner that we failed to clear. This did not deter the team and we had numerous chances to score and eventually did when Alex scored with a beautiful 25-yard lob. At four two we really had a chance of pulling a result out of the fire. Things did not go our way and we had several chances but we did not have the rub of the green. Greenmeadow scored a fifth goal as we over committed ourselves and the final score was five two.

This was another tough match but again the team kept battling until the end. Everyone agreed that the result flattered our opponents but I think the game had been lost in the first ten minutes when we conceded three goals.
