Lessons learnt as the boys continue to improve

This was our fifth league match of the season and the match was away against Highworth Juniors A. As the teams lined up for the kick off it was obvious that we were in for a tough game. Virtually every Highworth player looked bigger and stronger than any of our players.

We started well enough but Highworth put us under a lot of pressure. They had two very strong players up front and were 2-0 up after ten minutes. We did not give up and kept battling away giving as good as we got for most of the time. Just before half time Josh managed to pull a goal back by finishing a good move started by Alex. At the interval we only trailed by two goals to one thanks to some excellent work from Jordan in goal.

The second half kicked off and we pressed hard to find the equaliser. Highworth scored another goal straight from a corner and it was always going to be difficult to get back into the game. Nevertheless, the team kept trying and we were unlucky not to score on several occasions. As we pushed forward we left space at the back and Highworth also had chances to score again.

Overall I think Highworth deserved to win. This was a tough match for us and the long ball game that Highworth played was something we had not encountered before. Although we are improving with every game there is still lots to learn – well done to all the players, especially Jordan in goal.
