Here we go with the first league match of the season and the team put in an excellent performance playing away against South Marston Saints.

The match started and South Marston scored the opening goal of the game from their first attack. Our lads reacted very positively to this and took the game to South Marston. We defended well and played some very good passing football going forward. Max Reynolds scored a brilliant equaliser after picking the ball up just inside the South Marston half, beating two defenders and driving in an unstoppable shot. Just before half time South Marston regained the lead and it would be fair to say that we did not deserve to be trailing at the interval.

The second half kicked off and our lads started right from the first whistle with real determination to get the score level. The effort and commitment could not be questioned as we battled and tackled hard all over the pitch. Our reward came when Alex Dinsmore broke from midfield and scored a tremendous equaliser. It is said that you are at your most vulnerable after you have just scored and this proved to be correct as South Marston regained the lead straight from the kick off.

Our lads showed great character by battling back once again with another superb goal from Alex Dinsmore. We were not happy to settle for a point and continued to push for the winner. Alex made another great run into the box and just as he was about to score he was fouled. He stepped up and smashed in the penalty to give him a memorable hat trick and put us into the lead for the first time. Just before the final whistle and not content with three goals Alex made another great run and grabbed his fourth goal to wrap up the game.

Although Alex scored four goals nothing should be taken away from the rest of the team as every player had an excellent game. The lads played some excellent football and showed real spirit and determination to win the match after being behind three times. A brilliant start to the season and a very entertaining match to watch!
