Mick Byrne grabbed a goal and an assist as in then the end he was an inspired substitution as Bassett beat Bromham 2-0 in the County Cup.
Both goals came in the second half after a first period during which both sides fought out a dire game with chances few and far between.
A Steve Bunting free kick went wide on 11 minutes as he caught the Bromham defence off guard, they were just not ready for the set piece.
Luke Redman then connected with a Darren Brown free kick in the 14th minute but Lee Flynn held on to the header.
A minute later, Nathan Hall hit wide on the turn after intercepting a deflected Bunting effort.
Bassett were on the back foot in the 19th minute as poor defending allowed a through ball from James McLaughlin to find Peter Mannion but Mannion's shot was saved by Flynn.
Mannion had a half chance a minute later but his weak shot was easily saved as he failed to capitalise from a defensive error.
Midway through the half, Stu Hemsley put a glancing header from a deep Steve Bunting free kick just wide. This was the last real action in the half in what was a lacklustre performance from Bassett who should have walked away with the game.
Ten minutes after the restart and Bassett should have taken the lead as Stu Hemsley played through Andy Youngsam whose shot ricocheted back out off the post before he put the rebound miles over of an open goal.
In the 22nd minute, Hemsley flicked on a good ball from the deep but Youngsam fired over from the edge of the area.
Bassett then made the decisive double change as Tom Messenger and Mick Byrne replaced Moses Green and Ashley Bradshaw.
A minute after the change, Bunting played a short free kick to Byrne who whipped the ball in and a deft touch from Dave Tyler put the ball at Youngsam's feet and he fired in.
Seven minutes from time, Bassett doubled the advantage as a one-two between Hall and Messenger near midfield allowed Hall to pick out Byrne who turned and fired in to an open goal.
Danny Powell was booked for the home side two minutes later citing a melee after Powell reacted violently to a Tyler foul. The free kick never really troubled Flynn and in injury time Byrne nearly doubled his goal tally but his volley from the edge of the area dipped just over the bar with the 'keeper beaten.
Managers' Man of the Match: Steve Bunting
Scoop's Man of the Match: Steve Bunting – worked tirelessly all game and never gave up. Was creative and hard in the challenge all game.
Scoop Rating: 6/10 – Another disappointing display especially from the two forwards but the conditions never helped.
