Unbeaten streak extended to ten games

Wootton Bassett Reserves extended their unbeaten run to 10 games when they entertained Corsham Town Res in a Div 3 league fixture. On a pitch which was very wet, and coupled with a strong wind, the conditions were not ideal for football. In the first half Bassett playing into the strong wind did well to overcome the difficult conditions, and although they were able to create a few chances were not able to convert them. Both skipper Dixon and Burke came close, and a spectacular diving header by Bell deserved more than the dirty shirt he ended up with. Corsham were not able to take advantage of the wind behind them and what attacks they did make were dealt with well by Bryant, Angell, Burke and Bartlett. Bartlett, playing his first game for Bassett, impressed well and controlled the whole Bassett defence, with his previous Western League experience. On this one showing he seems a likely candidate for the Bassett first team. Bassett continued to control the game and the first half ended with no goals being scored.

In the second half with the wind in Bassett's favour, it was all one way traffic. Corsham were rarely able to get out of their own half, and Twine in the Bassett goal only touched the ball about six times. Bassett remained patient and after 10 minutes of the half, Burke opened the scoring for Bassett with a well taken headed goal. Further goals from Davies and MacLeod saw Bassett run out 3-0 winners, to maintain their unbeaten run. Next week Bassett Reserves meet lowly Marlborough Town reserves, k.o. 2.30 at home in Div 3 league fixture.
