A fine performance by Bassett Reserves who travelled to Ramsbury. Playing on a fairly heavy pitch, Bassett soon took command of the game and played some good controlled football, and for the first time this season the whole team began to play for each other. Neat play in the middle of the pitch found MacLeod on the left, and with almost a repeat of Saturday's opening goal at Sanford, MacLeod drew the Ramsbury keeper to fire home a good goal to set Bassett on their way. Bassett continued to play good team football, with all players working hard for each other, and their persistence led to two goals from Bell, one of which followed some intricate work by MacLeod on the left. At half time the score stood at 3-0 to Bassett.
So many times in the past Bassett has surrendered the lead by lack of concentration, but the second half saw more good all round teamwork and total concentration from all the players. Further goals by Thomas, Burke, Bell and MacLeod saw Bassett finish the game as 7-0 winners. To be fair, Ramsbury did not offer a lot of opposition, but nevertheless, the job still has to be done, and Bassett certainly punished Ramsbury heavily. Newcomer Gavin Docherty playing his first game in Bassett colours, gave a good account of himself and once fully match fit looks like being a useful member of the Wootton Bassett squad. This victory against Ramsbury should put the team in the right frame of mind to meet Malmesbury Vics in a cup replay at home next Saturday.
