On a lovely sunny spring day saw the girls travel to local team Ferndale Rodbourne in their final away league game of the season. The two recent matches between the sides have seen Bassett win twice one convincingly and the other in a rather close Quarter Final match that saw Ruby score two goals from her own penalty area.
Bassett started well playing some good football considering the pitch was rather bobbly and hard to play on. Bassett won a corner and the ball fell to Mia and her strike was just wide. Ferndale then found themselves with a spell of fortune in front of goal as a corner is driven in and Chloe saves, with the second corner going agonisingly wide. A Bassett throw found Mia who was able to turn her marker and shot was saved by the goal keeper.
Ferndale were given a soft free kick in a very strong area but fortunately the free kick was fired over the bar. After a mistake from Ferndale at the back Mia picks up the ball and strikes wide. Further hassle from Mia who finished the game as POTM caused her 3rd shot to go wide. Lots of pressure on the Ferndale goal but sadly no goals to show for it at the moment.
Halftime 0-0
A minor mistake from Bassett forced Holly to recover and clear away. Mia does some excellent play and finds Sienna whose strike is agonisingly wide. Bassett get a corner and Daisy's delivery finds Mia who flicks the ball to Poppy at the far stick and she manages to keep it alive and find Mia who's shot hits the crossbar.
Unfortunately for Bassett Ferndale began to force play into the Bassett half and put them under pressure and after a great ball through the striker fortunately strikes wide. After Bassett mess around with it at the back the on rushing striker fires over from 2 yards out and Bassett are lucky to be on level terms.
Bassett are then penalised for another soft foul in a dangerous area which saw the striker strike across the goal and hit the post and Bassett scramble to clear. Bassett are again penalised for a soft free kick in another dangerous area and survive another scare as this shot is wide.
With pressure ramping up and both teams going all out to grab that elusive goal Bassett try to push one last time and get a good counter attack and MIA's shot was wide before the resulting goal kick is a poor one and finds herself again and this time she slots home past on the onrushing keeper for 1-0!! Something Bassett truly deserved and after a tense 4 minutes found themselves riding out for the deserved win despite having to battle Ferndale all the way.
