Points shared in entertaining game

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development stay in fifth place after a thoroughly entertaining 3-3 draw at the Gerard Buxton Ground against visitors Westbury United Reserves. The visitors took an early lead when captain Martin Johnson fired home in the fourth minute from just outside the box, hitting an unstoppable shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net. Both sides created chances but it took a stroke of luck for the home side to get back on level terms when three minutes before the break Aaron Stevens shot from distance and his shot took a wicked deflection to give Dave Cardus in the Westbury goal no chance. There was still time for another goal before the break as a cross from the left from Jacob Marsh was met perfectly by the head of Ryan Withers to make it 2-1 to Royal Wootton Bassett. Westbury went straight up the other end and thought they had equalised on the stroke of half-time. A free kick from Otis Young was palmed out by the Bassett keeper to a Westbury striker who fired in only to be denied by an offside flag from the assistant referee. So, it ended 2-1 at the interval to the home side.

It did not take long for Westbury to get back on level terms after the break, the impressive Otis Young firing home to make it 2-2. The home side went back in front with another bit of fortune when Westbury keeper spilt a shot from Jacob Marsh straight to the feet of Joe Miller who made no mistake to put Royal Wootton Bassett Town back in front. In continued to be end to end stuff and Westbury again got back on level terms when Ferris Lambaret volleyed in from a good cross into the Royal Wootton Bassett box. Otis Young and Martin Johnson both went close for the visitors in the closing stages, but the home side also had a couple of good chances of their own including a fine run from Ben Lodge who was only denied by an excellent defensive tackle. It ended honours even and a fair result in what had been a good match.
