10 Mar 2013 - Chiseldon (H)

For the second time in 2 days Wootton Bassett come to Royal Wootton Bassett Academy for their last home match of the season. Surprisingly, the pitch seems a little drier than for the Old Town game the previous day but looks like it has cut up quiet badly. Mothers day however is a bitterly cold one with a biting wind blowing down the length of the pitch.

Wootton Bassett start brightly after the exertions of the previous day and straight away look to move the ball and keep possession. The ball goes out on the right and Harry takes a quick throw to Zach who makes a clever pass to an advanced Zak. A good shot though is well saved by the Chiseldon keeper.

Zach turns provider again a few minutes later but this time it's Harry who picks up the pass and drives a shot across the face of the goal. Todd is quick down the left and retrieves the ball and gets his own shot in on goal. The keeper can't hold it and the ball rebounds to Jordan at the edge of the box but this time the Chiseldon keeper is able to save the resulting shot and hold onto the ball.

Chiseldon break fast as the Whites try and push up and James has to make a great tackle in front of goal to prevent the Chiseldon strikers shot. Chiseldon enjoy their own period of pressure and Bassett can't clear their lines. They win a corner on the left which is cleared off the line by James' header.

Chiseldon win a free kick and their forward races through, beating the offside trap. Niall makes a great save but the ball is loose and the first person to it is a Chiseldon attacker who pokes home to give them the lead.

Bassett 0 – 1

A goal kick into space is collected well by Zak who beats a Chiseldon defender to get to the ball. A neat pass to Harry, hugging the right touchline gives him space to make a little run and lay off to Justin in the Chiseldon area. Justin lets fly with a first time shot which slips narrowly wide.

Chiseldon push forward and test the Bassett offside trap again. The striker is one-on-one with Niall who is left no chance as Chiseldon grab their second of the afternoon.

Bassett 0 – 2

Half Time 0 – 2

After the restart Justin makes a great tackle in his own area and brings the ball out nicely. Jordan takes it out wide and drives the ball into the box where it deflects off of the Chiseldon keeper before falling nicely to Zak who prods it home.

Bassett 1 – 2

Matthew and Scott are battling away in defence and win the ball from Chiseldon in midfield. Brad takes up the charge and surges forward and delivers a well weighted pass to Zach in space. Zach spots Jordan just ahead and plays to feet and Jordan takes it in his stride and hammers his shot goalwards but the Chiseldon keeper is alert to it this time.

Bassett win a free kick in the sticky midfield. Zach takes it quickly through the Chiseldon defence and Zak races through onto the fast ball, manages to beat the keeper to it and calmly finishes to even the scores.

Bassett 2 – 2

Wootton Bassett have the wind in their sails now, literally and metaphorically and are the team on top.

A corner is won and Jordan crosses well into the box and it comes out to Brad. Good thinking Brad passes back out to Jordan still on the left who delivers another beautiful cross but no-one is able to get a clear head on it.

Later, Justin brings the ball out of defence and beats a couple of Chiseldon players before passing to Jordan. Jordans cross is met by Zachs head but is just past the Chiseldon post. Justin and Jordan exchange passes again on the left which gives Jordan the room to try another shot but again, the Chiseldon keeper is there to keep the scores even.

Bassett win a free kick in the Chiseldon half for handball. Jordan tries another Langford Lightning strike straight on goal which brings out another great save from the Chiseldon keeper.

Full Time - Wootton Bassett Whites 2 Chiseldon 2

A game of 2 halves with Bassett certainly enjoying the best of the play and the best chances in the second half.
