13 Oct 2012 - Chiseldon (A)

A rearranged fixture saw Wootton Bassett Whites travel to Chiseldon Rec on a bright and sunny Saturday morning for a 'top of the table' clash against league leaders Chiseldon Under 13's.

Todd provided Captains duties this morning and Justin took a turn in goal for the first half.

Chiseldon had the better of the early play and Wootton Bassett were caught on the back-foot and struggled to settle. An early chance for Chiseldon in front of goal was miscued as Justin rushed out to intercept. Wootton Bassett started to build an attack with some tidy passes but were thwarted in the Chiseldon box and they were able to break quickly through the Wootton Bassett defence. Jordan chased the forward run and kept a calm head to intercept the attack and clear the ball.

Wootton Bassett were regaining their shape and starting to win more balls in midfield. Good movement off the ball was enabling the boys to start stringing their passes together and Brads though ball put Todd through on goal but his shot was saved well by the Chiseldon 'keeper.

A misunderstanding in the Wootton Bassett defence gave Chiseldon an indirect free kick inside the Wootton Bassett area. The Wootton Bassett defenders were almost on their own goal line as the free kick was driven in and superbly blocked by Zach.

On 12 minutes Wootton Bassett broke clear through Ollie and Grant and it was Zach who popped up on the end of some slick passing to shoot on the Chiseldon goal. The powerful shot was parried by the Chiseldon keeper and Zak was able to nip in and slot home. Bassett 1 - 0.

Chiseldon didn't let this setback get them down and drove forward in search of an equaliser. Their pressure resulted in a corner which was delivered to the near post but the resulting shot was well saved by Justin.

Wootton Bassett break down the right and Matthew delivers a great ball to Zach who is able to turn but the ball is nicked off his toe as he prepares to shoot. Chiseldon surge forward again and it is Jordan again who races over to cover the incoming attacker.

Zak picks up the ball in midfield and breaks through the middle, beating 2 Chiseldon players but his shot is scrambled away for a corner. Jordans incoming corner is only cleared as far as Grant whose clever chip over the Chiseldon defence see's Brad in on goal but the keeper makes a great save to deny him.

Ollie and Todd are linking up well with Zach and a great through ball puts Brad in again but this time he is not to be denied coolly stroking the ball in to make it 2 - 0. Bassett 2 - 0.

As Chiseldon compose themselves again Matthew is needed to make a great tackle on the right and follows this up with a nice pass down the line to Brad but his effort is saved again. The keeper makes a long goal kick and the Wootton Bassett defence is caught out by the bounce of the ball as they move up to intercept. Chiseldon forwards take advantage immediately and are clear in on goal and score under a diving Justin. Bassett 2 - 1.

Some tight play in midfield follows and a Chiseldon infringement gives Wootton Bassett a free kick just inside the Chiseldon half. James takes the kick and Todd takes the cross and lays on a nice pass to set up Zach to score. Bassett 3 - 1.

Shortly afterward a throw from the left to Ollie is shipped to Brad who plays on to an advancing Matthew who shoots just wide.

Half Time Chiseldon 1 - Wootton Bassett Whites 3

Ollie takes his place in goal for the second half.

Wootton Bassett start the second half the brighter and have the best of the early possession. They quickly force a corner and another fine delivery from Jordan is met by Todd whose volley goes narrowly over the bar.

Brad makes a great tackle in defence and is able to pass to Zak. He makes a nice simple pass to Justin who goes on a weaving run through the Chiseldon defence and is able to get his shot away but it's well saved by the Chiseldon keeper. Chiseldon try to get back into the game but James breaks up the attack and moves the ball to Grant, then Zak puts Justin clear again but once again the Chiseldon keeper is able to make a save.

Chiseldon move the ball down the right but Ollie is able to clear up at the back. Ollies clearance goes to Todd who makes a lovely flick-on to Grant who looks up and slots a super ball through to Zak who finishes well to bag his second of the match. Bassett 4 - 1.

From the restart Chiseldon push through but Ollie rushes out well to snuff out the threat. Another long clearance from Ollie falls to Zak who turns well and sets up Justin who is able to beat the Chiseldon keeper this time. Bassett 5 - 1.

Wootton Bassett continue to put the pressure on the Chiseldon goal and are rewarded with a corner. Once again, Jordan delivers a threatening ball into the box but Chiseldon's clearance only makes it as far as Grant on the edge of the box who shoots through the crowded area to grab the sixth for the team. Bassett 6 - 1.

Chiseldon aren't giving up and they push forward and beat the Wootton Bassett offside trap. But Ollie is alert and races out to the incoming attacker and does enough to make the Chiseldon forward shoot wide. James makes a great tackle in midfield a breaks through 2 tackles before passing to Todd who is able to cut the ball back across the Chiseldon area to Brad but his shot scrapes just past the far post.

Full Time Chiseldon 1 - Wootton Bassett Whites 6

Wootton Bassett Whites again showed great character and played a neat passing game to see off the division leaders with some style. Another super team performance by all of the boys got them the result that they deserved. This Saturdays Man of the Match was awarded to Todd Goddard.

Manager Comments. After a defeat last week in the cup the players heads could have dropped but yet again they all came out and had another great game and put some lovely passing shots together. Another well deserved win.
