Pewsey Put Youth's Win Streak to Bed

Wootton Bassett Town under 18's run of victories was brought to an emphatic end as they were comfortably beaten 4-2 by Pewsey Vale.

Three almost identical goals in the first half from the home side put the game to bed as Bassett failed to finish off their chances.

It took three crosses from the right hand side and three first time shots from Pewsey's left midfielder to leave Bassett with a mountain to climb in the second half.

One of the goals did appear to be offside, but you couldn't doubt the quality of the finishing – or the lack of quality marking shown by Bassett.

The visiting side did have opportunities to claw their way back into the match in the opening period as a low drive from Josh Dimond forced a save before Phil Tearle saw an effort tipped onto the post.

Tearle narrowed Pewsey's lead early in the second half with a volley from close range after being left unmarked, but Bassett failed to cause any further damage to the scoreboard before a fine fourth was scored by the hosts.

It was a superb solo finish as the Pewsey forward dinked the ball over his marker before firing the ball on the bounce from range into the top right corner.

Callum Dunn added a late consolation, but it could have been much different had Craig Kelly's earlier shot not rebounded off the post.
