Comeback Kids Leave it Late

Wootton Bassett Town Under 18's started their Wilts Floodlit League campaign with a 4-3 come from behind victory over Devizes Town, with all four Bassett goals being scored in the second half.

Both Tom Marchment and Phil Tearle grabbed themselves a brace to open their accounts for the season.

Devizes went into the break with a two goal cushion after 'keeper Rich Hanley had been beaten by two relatively soft goals. Bassett had the better of the chances in the opening 45 minutes but were thwarted by some outstanding saves from the Devizes 'keeper.

The first goal for the visitors came from a corner which was glanced home before Azmol Ali deflected a low, in-swinging free kick past Hanley.

Marchment reduced the deficit early into the second period, beating the Devizes 'keeper at his near post with a low one-on-one effort.

However, Devizes hit back with their third after Dan Strange was caught in possession and Hanley beaten from the edge of his box.

Trailing by three with around 15 minutes to go, it seemed as though Bassett were going to get nothing from the game despite a solid performance.

Marchment had other ideas though, heading powerfully home at the left hand post from a Jamie Hicks corner.

He then won a penalty when he was dragged down with his back to goal and Tearle dispatched into the bottom right corner to level things up.

Tearle, who had netted twice for the reserves Tuesday night against Fairford, capped off an improbable comeback when he flicked a deep free kick from man of the match James Lewis past the 'keeper from the edge of the box.
